Otis Samuel Powell was born in Augusta, Georgia on April 4, 1955. His formative years were spent in public housing and the public school system of Augusta, Ga., where he was active in sports and academic activities while working in a local supermarket. After high school, he attended Paine College, in Augusta Ga., where he received a B.S. Degree in Biology in 1977. He completed the medical program at the Medical College of Georgia, receiving the M.D. Degree in 1982. He later received specialty training in Family Medicine and Faculty Development from Morehouse School of Medicine. He joined the faculty at Morehouse School of Medicine in 1985. After leaving MSM in 1991, he joined a private practice in 1992. He also joined the faculty at American International School of Medicine in Georgetown, Guyana, South America in the year 2000. He has been closely involved in medical education at both institutions. During his tenure in primary care, he has worked extensively in emergency medicine, correction medicine, laboratory medicine, mental health, academic medicine and with the homeless. He is presently the Medical Director and the Laboratory Director of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia. His experiences have been in both rural and urban communities.
His primary interest has been in providing healthcare in the inner city and rural communities and exposing students to the healthcare needs of these communities. He has had the opportunity to work with scores of medical students, physician assistants and nurse practitioner students. He has also expanded his practice to the area of Telemedicine. Dr. Powell continues to work closely with students and provide primary care and mental health services in an integrated fashion. He also maintains a close relationship with the urban and rural communities for which has been affiliated. He has resided in the Atlanta, Ga. area since 1982.
Ericka Swilling-Nobles, FNP-C
Ericka Swilling-Nobles is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She graduated from Mercer University with a B.A in Sociology. She then went on to obtain her Associate of Science in Nursing at Macon State College; Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Georgia College and State University, and Masters of Science in Nursing from Kennesaw State University. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Ericka is Georgia native and brings a wealth of experience in primary care healthcare, in addition to compassionate care providing long term care, palliative care, and hospital medicine.
